API keys use encrypted storage only when you enable auto-save. References and image conversation handles are kept in memory.

Images API uses generation without references and editing when references are attached. Responses carries the previous image into your next instruction.

Aspect ratio (WxH, optional)

Image format

Refinement

Size sets the aspect ratio, not exact output pixels. Leave it empty for automatic sizing, choose a suggestion, or enter another positive WxH ratio.

High allows iterative self-refinement. Low uses a single generation pass for faster results.

Streaming always returns Base64. Signed URLs expire; use Base64 for reliable downloads and session archives, especially in the PWA.

Meta rejects None unless your application has been granted access.

Layout and code tools

These tools run at Meta, not on your computer. Turning off web search also disables browsing. All three tools are available by default.

Stream

Show completed images as they arrive. Progressive partial previews are not supported.

End-user identifier (optional)

Meta reference price: $0.01 per successfully returned image, including reasoning and tools. Token usage is informational, not token-based billing.

Local images

Playground limits: 16 references, PNG/JPEG/WebP up to 10 MiB each and 50 MiB total. Files stay in memory until you run the request. For larger references, use a hosted URL or an existing Meta file ID.
